Mr. Ning Tang is the Founder and CEO of CreditEase,Executive Chairman and CEO of Yirendai (NYSE: YRD).
Mr. Tang founded the company in 2006, as China’s first marketplace lending company, and over the past decade, CreditEase has developed into one of China’s leading Fintech companies, specializing in small business and consumer lending, as well as wealth management for China’s rapidly growing mass affluent and high net worth investors.
Under Mr. Tang’s leadership over this period, CreditEase has expanded its nationwide network to more than 280 cities and rural areas in 20 provinces across China, as well as establishing an international footprint in Hong Kong, Singapore, Israel, Europe and North America. In December 2015, CreditEase successfully listed its online consumer finance and wealth management subsidiary, Yirendai, on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: YRD), becoming China’s first publicly listed Fintech company in the global market.
CreditEase has also established itself as a leading wealth management company, and Mr. Tang has been instrumental in establishing strategic partnerships with global investment powerhouses including Morgan Stanley, Wellington, Tishman Speyer and others. CreditEase Wealth Management applies the philosophy of long-term, diversified global asset allocation, and a “fund-of-funds” strategy to help high net worth and ultra-high net worth Chinese investors achieve their wealth management goals, and has grown into an international firm with over 2,000 relationship manager serving more than 100,000 investors. Additionally, the CreditEase Fintech Investment Fund has emerged as a leading venture capital investor in the global Fintech sector. In 2017, CreditEase was awarded the “Best Wealth Management Firm of the Year” by AsiaMoney enjoying good fame in the global capital market and assets management field in its first China’s Outstanding Independent Wealth Management Firms selections. In 2018, CreditEase was again awarded the “Best Wealth Management Firm of the Year” and the “Best Wealth Management Firm for Fund of Funds” by AsiaMoney. In addition, it was awarded the “Best Social Impact Project in China” at The Global Wealth and Society Awards 2018, the “Best Non-Bank Private Wealth Management Institution in China” in 2017 and the “Best Non-Bank Private Wealth Product” in 2016 by the Asian Banker. In 2018, Asian Private Banker awarded CreditEase Wealth Management the Best Wealth Manager for Digital Innovation, the Best Wealth Manager for High Net Worth Services, and the Best Wealth Manager for Alternative Advisory and Excellence Wealth Manager (China Domestic categories).
Mr. Tang began his career in finance as an investment banker with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in New York, where he participated in IPOs and bond issuances, and advised on M&A transactions in the areas of financial services, telecommunications, media and technology. Upon returning to China in 2000, he joined US-listed Chinese technology company, AsiaInfo, as the Director of Strategic Investments focusing on opportunities in emerging technology ventures. After his tenure at AsiaInfo, he became one of China’s early angel investors, and made a series of successful angel investments that later grew into major technology companies such as Tarena International (NASDAQ: TEDU), and Emay Softcom (SZ: 300085). He also established China Growth Capital, a venture capital firm investing in early-stage consumer and enterprise technology startups.
Mr. Tang has spoken at prestigious global forums and institutions such as the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the World Economic Forum, and the United Nations. He serves as a member of the Global Leadership Council with University of Oxford Saïd Business School, a member of the advisory committee of Tsinghua University’s China Entrepreneur Training Program, and is an advisor to Peking University’s Social Entrepreneurship Training Program. CreditEase has been profiled twice as a case study by Harvard Business School. In 2016, CreditEase was elected as the Executive Director Unit of the China Internet Finance Association. Mr. Tang studied mathematics at Peking University, and earned a bachelor’s degree in economics at the University of the South (Sewanee) in the US. In 2018, he was awarded the honorary doctorate degree of the University of the South (Sewanee) for his outstanding achievements in the fintech field.
In April 2012, Mr. Tang was engaged as the expert of small-and-medium enterprise policy consulting group of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. In December 2014, Mr. Tang was selected as the Chairman of Beijing Internet Finance Industry Association. In March 2016, Mr. Tang was selected as the executive member of China Internet Finance Association. In September 2018, Mr. Tang was appointed financial advisor of Xi'an Municipal People's Government. Invited by the Singapore Government, as from November 2018, Mr. Tang will sit on its International Technology Advisory Panel to advise Fintech developments. Mr. Tang is also a member of The Wall Street Journal CEO Council and Fortune CEO Initiative. In March 2019, Mr. Tang became the executive director of China Mergers & Acquisitions Association.
